Dear valued client,
Please advised: On the 29th of April, 2015 W3 was affected by a BC Hydro power outage, that disrupted power to the financial district of Vancouver's downtown core. The outage was due to a BC Hydro cable issue.
As is normal procedure, W3 switched to UPS and generator power, however due to the loss of environmentals, in particular building ventilation, and the fact that many of our fiber providers only have a 2 hour runtime on their local routers, it was decided to safe power down some of the servers to minimize damage to the hardware.

Contrary to the update in the Vancity article, power to our building was not fully restored until 5pm PDT. (see BC Hydro above).
Update: power outage occurred due to "wire dug up" according to BC Hydro.

W3 Media was hit with a massive Black Friday DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack against our network infrastructure. A denial of service attack is when a perpetrator(s) use a group of slave computers to deplete a network's public communication channels such that the intended users are unable to access the network.
Status Update: Security steps have been undertaken and the Vancouver Police have been notified. All services are now up. No client sites were compromised and no client data was lost.

Details: Epik Networks, one of the providers that supplies W3 with fiber, will be upgrading their system hub to increase redundancy and capacity. These upgrades will benefit W3 clients with better quality, reliability and speed of network service at no extra cost to our clients.
The scheduled upgrade is slated for 2300 - 0200 EST. Although we do not anticipate any major disruptions, clients may experience brief disruptions for validation and testing during the period specified.

Small electrical fire in building's electrical room, stemming from ongoing renovations damaged the building's electrical system. Episode was detected just after 9am this morning. At this time our system moved to back-up power. Repairs are complete, a short outage was required to remove and replace damaged electrical equipment. We will update as we receive more information from the building management.
Systems are 100% up at this time.

NTXenweb05 and NTXenweb06 have been scheduled for regular testing and inspection of the server hardware. During this time tech will also be installing, updating and upgrading resources as required.
